Her private lessons in Autoharp, mountain dulcimer, guitar and mandolin are
given through the Homestead Pickin' Parlor and the West Bank School of Music
in the Minneapolis area.
Workshops can be an hour or a week in length, and can take place at a festival, a music store, for a club, and more. Karen has taught at many major events across the country, including the Augusta Heritage Center (WV), the Walnut Valley Festival (KS), the Memphis Dulcimer Festival, the Cranberry Dulcimer Gathering and Old Songs Festival (both in NY), Old Town School of Folk Music (IL), the String Alongs (WI), Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering (PA), the Ozark Folk Center (AR) and the California Traditional Music Society Summer Solstice Festival.
School programs Karen has long-term experience working with students from preschool through junior high, and offers a variety of performance and workshop options. These can include: a lively introduction to the many instruments she plays and their countries of origin; group folk song sessions; songwriting; simple and affordable dulcimer building; and teaching traditional American fiddle tunes to orchestras. Karen is also available for school programs on Celtic music with her band Piper's Crow, and with other musicians for Appalachian shows. Email for details.
